If your child falls between the ages of two and five, they probably actively explore the world around them while learning to share, recognize numbers and letters, and discover their independence. We have put together a few tips that will help you and your child get ready for kindergarten and beyond.
1. Always Follow Through
Parents can learn to always follow through when they give their preschooler a command. If it’s time to turn the television off and go to bed, don’t give in when your toddler begs for just five more minutes.
2. Have High Expectations
It’s easy to do everything for preschoolers because they are so young, but this isn’t the best thing for them. Preschool teachers point out that when you have higher expectations for your children, they will often meet those expectations. There’s no reason your little one can’t put their shoes and bookbag away after school, or toss dirty clothing in the laundry basket at the end of the day.
3. Encourage Independence
Encouraging independence is the best way to prepare a child for the future and there’s no reason you can’t start during preschool years. Teachers suggest you allow children to pick out their own outfit, pour their own cereal, and select a chore to help out with each day.
4. Praise All Achievements
Young children react to attention, so look for every opportunity to praise your youngster and be mindful of giving any negative responses. Teachers stress that the way you say things is important. Never raise your voice and if you need to redirect your child’s attention, try breaking out in song to get them to laugh.
