Your Guide to Parent-Teacher Meetings

At Lake Forrest Prep, we feel that communication between parents and teachers is essential! That’s why families can pick their children up every day in the classroom. Parent-teacher conferences are just one more way to get to know your child’s teacher. If you’re nervous about attending the first one of the year, you’re not alone. These conferences at your Orlando private school are a chance to give you information about your child that you may otherwise not know. We’ve put together a simple guide to help you prepare for your first conference of the school year.

Come Prepared

Before heading to your first parent-teacher conference, take a moment to speak with your child. Ask them what they like about their classes, which areas they’re struggling in, and anything they might want help with. Sometimes, students are more willing to express their concerns to their parents, and the meeting is the perfect opportunity for you to discuss those concerns with their teacher. If you have questions about the curriculum, don’t be afraid to ask the teacher for clarification.

Arrive On Time

Remember, you’re not the only parent the teacher will be meeting with that night, and each session only lasts about 20 minutes. It’s important for you to be on time as the sessions can’t run late. Try to arrive at least fifteen minutes before the scheduled time. This will give you time to park and find the classroom without rushing.

Keep an Open Mind

The way your child acts at home may not correspond to their behavior in the classroom. If the teacher shares a behavior with you that seems out of character, don’t shoot it down. Instead, listen to what they have to say and ask how you can help at home. Often, it’s as simple as having a conversation with your child to address the teacher’s concerns.
