Spring is just around the corner for Central Florida! With warmer weather, your children will likely want to get out of the house more and embrace the fun activities of spring. We’ve got 5 fun activities that can help shake off those winter blues of longer nights and embrace the fun of more sun.
Spring picnic
A great spring activity for children is to have a picnic in the park. It’s a classic! Pack some sandwiches, fruit, and snacks, and head to the park. You can bring a ball or frisbee to play with, or just enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.
Flower hunting or gardening
Spring is also a great time to teach children about flowers. You can help them plant a family garden, vegetables, or herbs in a small raised bed. It’s a fun way to teach children about responsibility and the importance of taking care of plants.
If your kid doesn’t have a green thumb, that’s okay! You can find a list of local flora and go exploring! Take them on a “flower hunt” for local plants. You can also visit a public garden like Leu Gardens in downtown Orlando and use signage for clues!
Chalk art contest
Spring is a great time to get creative with children. You can do art projects such as painting flowers, making birdhouses, or creating spring-themed crafts. It’s a great way to encourage their creativity and imagination.
Nature and animal ‘safari’
Spring is the perfect time to go outside and explore nature. You can organize a “safari” for children, where they have to find different critters. These can be anything from a caterpillar to a brown squirrel! It’s a great way to encourage children to learn about nature and be active outdoors.
Spring cleaning
Spring is the perfect time to do some cleaning and organizing around the house. You can involve children in the process by asking them to help organize their toys or clothes! It’s a great way to teach them about responsibility and the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and tidy.
